telling the citizens from the zombies

can be a tough call some days.

I could not resist this image. There was blood all over the streets. On youtube you can hear the screams that signaled to us the zombies were around the corner.

Beechwood Cemetery was off limits to zombies today. This was agreeable, since it left the rest of the city to roam, and Parliament Hill to converge in.

Annual zombie walks are common in large cities and Ottawa is no exception. With such beautiful architecture and history surrounding us, what better way to have fun with it than this extension of Halloween.

With great fun and imagination, the costumes range from the bloodied version of everyday to sci-fi effect laden wonders of the macabre. Torn open adult faces paraded slowly along with daintily bloodied fairy princess toddlers. Zombie walks are indeed a family affair, like it or not.

Police were helpful in directing the shambling parade of gore, although at one point an organizer was warned that zombies should steer clear of coffee shops. Market patrons did not seem to understand the sudden smack of a bloodied hand on the window as crowds of undead streamed past. The milk in their cups curdled further as the screams could be heard through the thin glass between them – and them.

The walk shambled down York Street then made their way to Rideau. Hundreds converged on the steps of Parliament, hanging off lamp posts, swapping fake blood recipes, and stopping for photographers.

Light was not helpful. In the sun though, zombies are much more hideous. Fill flash? And burn out what is left of their retinas? no… i could not do it.

Many balked at this one, and i saw him far too late. Lucky for us, he has a hard time with the infectious bite.

there was a z-walk virgin behind us that adored every rotting corpse. she had never seen a z-walk before and is a shoe in for next year.

damn light.

next year i will hope for clouds.

all in all, a wonderous day. Scott and i strolled around the market sippin coffee, hung out with the zwalk, then went for sushi. that was the best way to wrap up an awesome day. punny? me? never.
